Van Marle Mortgages Successfully negotiated my complex mortgage, and much faster than I expected
First home
Utrecht, that is where we wanted to buy our first home, my girlfriend and I. We knew it wouldn’t be easy to find an affordable house but we had set our hearts on this wonderful city. As new parents we wanted to build a home for our family. An added benefit of Utrecht is its central location in the Netherlands, useful for me as an entrepreneur who needs to visit clients all over the country.
Income
This all took place in early 2016, at a time when my girlfriend changed jobs from regular employment to a position where she would make more money working fewer hours. Her first contract was only a one-year contract, but with a view to permanent employment after. I’ve been self-employed since 2011, working as an online marketing expert. My business had been growing slowly but steadily, so in 2015 I decided to start investing some money. I hired my first employee and got an MBA at a prestigious business university. My turnover that year was fine, but my expenses made quite a dent in my profit. I wasn’t worried, because I knew I would make up for it in the following years, and our incomes would only increase.
Financing
Unfortunately, when we applied for a mortgage, that’s not how banks viewed it. We were lucky enough to be able to buy a plot in a great new development in Utrecht, exactly what we wanted. This meant we had to get our financing in place fast, which didn’t go as easy as we thought it would. It turned out the bank was not interested in my story, and my figures over 2015 and my girlfriend’s one-year contract were enough reason for them to not even consider us for an application.
Mortgage advice
A friend told us to talk to Van Marle Mortgages. A mortgage service all the way in the north of the country wasn’t the most obvious choice, but I had zero reservations about doing business with VMM. I met with Jack van Marle in a town between Groningen and Utrecht, and after that all our contact took place over the phone, or via e-mail, WhatsApp or Skype. When my girlfriend and I would be talking in the evening, and a question would come up, we could simply contact Jack via WhatsApp and he would answer straight away. I was given clear instructions on the best ways to present my financial data and other documents and Jack closely monitored all aspects of the delivery. Jack clearly has an excellent reputation with various mortgage providers, which meant that he managed to get them to take a serious look at our application. This led to our potential being judged in a whole new light and to us being approved by the same bank that had previously rejected us. And the end result is wonderful: Enjoying our life as a family in the exact home that we always wanted.
